The Lakewood Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1888. The Lakewood Fire Department is a combination department. There are currently 50 active firefighters and support members in the volunteer fire department.
The Career Division of the Department was started in the 1950s and currently employs 49 firefighters and officers, which includes the Chief of Department.
The Fire Headquarters are located at 733 Cedar Bridge Avenue.

Engine Co #3, 976 New Hampshire Avenue
Engine Co #3, 170 Lafayette Blvd. (Substation)
Engine Co #4, 300 River Avenue
Career Fire Stations are located at 119 First Street and 735 Cedar Bridge Avenue
